ROUT 4G is a two-camera dash cam with its own 4G LTE connection. It records the road ahead in 2K and the cabin in 1080p at the same time, and the UBOX Pro app on your iPhone or Android phone lets you watch both cameras live, see where the vehicle is and talk to the driver, wherever you are. To go online, the camera needs a nano SIM card with data and 4G coverage where the vehicle is.
The road camera captures 2560 × 1440 video through a 105° lens, nearly 80% more pixels than 1080p, while the 140° cabin lens takes in the driver and passengers. After dark the road camera keeps recording in color, and 940nm infrared LEDs light the cabin for the camera with no visible glow to distract the driver. Time, date and GPS position are stamped on the video, and H.265 compression fits more on the card.
When the vehicle is parked, two microwave radar sensors, one facing forward and one facing back, pick up movement up to 16 ft away. The camera wakes, records and alerts you by push notification or call. Person detection, activity zones and an armed schedule cut down false alarms, and a 0.003 W standby draw with low-voltage protection is easy on the vehicle's battery.
Video records to microSD in a loop, so the card never fills up. When the G-sensor detects an impact, that clip is locked so it isn't recorded over, and with an optional cloud plan, alarm clips upload over 4G for a copy off the card. Download any recording to your phone to keep it or send it to your insurer.
Setup takes no tools beyond what's in the box: mount the camera at the top of the windshield, tuck the cable behind the trim with the pry tool and clips, and plug it into the OBD-II port found on nearly every car and light truck sold in the US since 1996. The body turns through 90° and the cabin lens tilts 30° up or down to suit family cars, rideshare vehicles and work vans, and family members or managers can each have their own login.
Use ROUT 4G only in vehicles you own or manage, tell drivers and passengers it records video, audio and GPS location, and follow your state's recording laws.
